As a society, we are living in an intense time of change that requires re-imagining the way forward within our communities. Many individuals are also noticing a deeper desire for connection and more meaningful processes to uncover what remains beneath the surface. To support this uncovering, the Community Coaching Certification (CCC) program assists change makers in moving forward with their work; while simultaneously building coaching skills that support staying at the cutting edge. This work is built upon Leadership that Works’ mission to give communities that have traditionally been denied access to coaching, access to this dynamic strategy that supports sustainable transformation.
The CCC 9-month certification program introduces you to 20 core coaching skills and prepares you to facilitate coaching for individuals and groups. In addition to skill building, you will also focus on coaching application using the EASE (Experience, Application, Strategy, Exploration) community coaching integration framework. This certification is recognized by the International Coach Federation (ICF), ensuring you can use your skills to support communities globally.
Phase 1: Introduction to the Coaching Mindset & Core Coaching Skills
Focus: 1:1 Coaching
Timeline: Months 1 – 6
During the initial phase, you will be introduced to 20 core coaching skills including the coaching mindset, a foundational tool in facilitating one-on-one coaching. The core skills are introduced during the two day in-person launch as well as through live bi-weekly teleclasses. You will learn from expert community coaches who demonstrate the skills in action. During this phase you will be paired with a peer-coaching partner to support on-going practice between classes. You will also work with a mentor during four mentoring sessions.
Phase 2: Introduction to Group and Team Coaching & Personal Development
Focus: Group & Team Coaching
Timeline: Months 5 – 8
During Phase 2, you will be introduced to group and team coaching. In addition, advanced training on coaching skills will support your ability to coach in community settings. The bi-weekly teleclasses will be focused on group coaching application within various community populations. Through community coaching stories about coaching application, these sessions will help you begin thinking about how you will apply the highlighted coaching skill(s) in your communities. To unpack the learning in these sessions, you will practice facilitating group coaching sessions that support collective learning. During this phase, you will be part of a peer coaching pod that will support group coaching as well as a new peer-coaching partner to continue on-going practice between classes. You will complete a mid-program written and oral assessment during this phase.
Phase 3: Introduction to Coaching Integration, Action & Accountability
Focus: Competency & Application
Timeline: Months 7 – 9
The final phase focuses on coaching integration, action and accountability using the EASE (Experience, Application, Strategy and Exploration) community coaching framework. EASE will walk you through four lenses that are valuable to consider when planning for community coaching engagements. During the bi-weekly teleclasses, community coach facilitators share best practices and content expertise to support your ability to navigate complex community coaching environments. You will be matched with peers to conduct one-on-one or group coaching to integrate the coaching strategy demonstrated. This phase is also supported by teleclass mentors who provide immediate feedback to enhance competency of coaching skills.
By the end of the program you will be able to support clients to:
- Navigate complex situations using a coaching approach to gain insight and clarity.
- Build and support leadership development at all levels in a community.
- Generate authentic and grounded action.
- Create cultures of connection and collaboration.
- Magnify the value of diverse perspectives.
- Design innovative systems, projects, programs and campaigns that incorporate a coaching approach.
Change makers will meet with peers in-person at both the launch and conclusion of the program. In between, you will participate in teleclasses and peer coaching that focus on coaching skill building, practice and application.
The distance learning option begins with a Coaching Essentials program (8 90-minute teleclasses held on Tuesdays and Thursdays August 8-31, 2017 at 7-8:30 pm ET) and then joins the in-person cohorts for 20 additional 2-hour teleclasses held on Thursdays at 7 pm ET.
Two additional 2-hour teleclasses are held on Thursdays, June 14 and June 21, 2018 at 7 pm ET
