Dr. Mark A. Friedman is a computer scientist, educator, professional coach, and trainer of collaboration/communication skills.
Dr. Friedman received his professional coaching certification through the Coaching for Transformation program of Leadership that Works, and has served several times as head coach in the Self Expression and Leadership program of Landmark Worldwide. During his professional career, he has coached and mentored hundreds of individuals. Dr. Friedman is currently a Certification Candidate with the Center for Nonviolent Communication (NVC) committed to knowing, living and sharing the principles and practices of Compassionate Communication — a philosophy and practice empowering individuals to connect into the fullness of life, make authentic decisions, and build strong connections with others. Dr. Friedman employs his coaching skills, empowerment skills and communications skills in his teaching and interaction with students. He enjoys working with individuals and organizations empowering them to find greater authenticity in their communication, increased understanding, deeper connection, emotional healing and conflict resolution.
Dr. Friedman holds a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, NY), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He taught for well over a dozen years as an Assistant Professor at Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and Central Connecticut State University, as an Instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and as an Adjunct Professor at several 16other colleges and universities. As a computer scientist with thirty-five years of professional experience, Dr. Friedman has worked for and consulted with large and small organizations including International Business Machines (IBM), the Hewlett-Packard Corporation (HP), Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), and General Electric Corporation (GE). He has both developed and taught computing technologies in industry, in academia and while working independently. Mark has created and served on the organizational committee of many technology conferences. Currently, Dr. Friedman focuses on creating and offering non-traditional educational and vocational programs to young people with special needs where he combines his skills in technology, education, coaching and communication.
