I coach people in nonprofits to find personal sustainability with their mission-driven work. I help them navigate the complexities and unique challenges that arise in the nonprofit field as a result of the work and the people who gravitate towards it. I also specialize in burn-out prevention and recovery.
As your coach, I would work with you to understand what is most important to you--the big things and the seemingly small ones. These discoveries (or confirmations) serve to both guide and ground you as we explore the many options available to you--possibilities to improve your workplace, your personal life, and ultimately your sense of happiness and fulfillment.
After spending more than 20 years as full-time staff of various nonprofits, I am well-versed with nearly all organizational functions, from fundraising to community organizing to policy advocacy. I am also very familiar with the frustrations that can arise from the amount of work, imperfect systems, and human limitations. I can brainstorm with you strategies and solutions for the workplace and, simultaneously, work with you to find ways to feel satisfaction and renew your energy.
As an Asian-American immigrant from Latin America who grew up working class and came out as a lesbian, I am keenly aware of the interplay of personal, institutional, and structural power. My coaching is informed by an understanding of gender, race, class, sexuality, ability, and immigration status.
In addition, I have practiced the martial art of Aikido for many years, as well as yoga, dance, music, and storytelling. I can bring an awareness of energy, movement, and the creative arts into our coaching if you so desire.
