Coach's Corner

Filling My Tank with Coaching
by Suzie Bichovsky

The invitation to share my coaching story both hugged and choked me. How have the Coaching for Transformation skills I learned impacted my work as an educator? Where do I begin?

Perhaps I could talk about using mirroring to teach cooperative learning. Or incorporating group coaching into the existing bully prevention program. Maybe I should discuss supporting my teacher clients with burnout prevention. Or resisting the ruffling of my integrity feathers by things outside of my control. I can’t forget to mention the impact of approaching open house this year from a heart place.

Then, the Universe stepped in. It sent me the answer in the form of Ellie*, a twelve year old girl.

Embrace Change: 5 Lessons to Help You Make The Leap
By Tanuja Ramchal

The idea of change can cause us to be mired in confusion and doubt, especially when the stakes are high. Even when you're clear about what you want, how do you avoid the potential negative consequences?

I'm familiar with that space. I spent a decade in the corporate world and was successful by society's standards. Still, fulfillment eluded me.

Coaching in Communities

Observations for India
by Leslie Brown with Jagruti Gala

In my recent travels to Mumbai and Baroda, I had the opportunity to observe innovative coaching in various communities, including a learning center in Baroda, called Aura (www.auraplace.com). Aura was started in 2007, by Leadership that Works’ faculty member Jagruti Gala, who saw a need for supporting young people across all economic backgrounds in her city. The core areas of the work are to impact the way young people create, communicate and connect.

Words of Wisdom

April 22 will be the 45th celebration of Earth Day – a day of awareness and appreciation for the earth and support of environmental protection movements around the globe. In honor of Mother Nature, here are some inspiring thoughts about the natural world and our role in it.

The environment is where we all meet; where all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share. —Lady Bird Johnson

Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean. —John Muir

You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make. —Jane Goodall

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children. —Native American Proverb
