Natural Transformation
How Body & Emotional Awareness Impact the Coaching Experience

by Richard Michaels

In his biography, Albert Einstein describes how some of his greatest discoveries first came from his body in the form of a tingling and other enlivening physical sensations that then informed the images and insights that led him to his greatest discoveries.

This has profound and practical implications for coaching—small nuances in a client’s speech or body language contain keys to transformation.

The Power of Working with Parts
By Phoebe Williams

Mary, a woman in her late 30’s, came to coaching with the goal of mastering the ups and downs, the powerful inner currents, that seemed to sweep over her and gain control of her thoughts, feelings and actions. Over the course of our work together, we came to know these inner currents as inner parts, or personalities.

Coaching Essentials in Spanish Launches with Success
By Meghan Ondrish

Earlier this summer, a team from Leadership that Works (LTW) launched Coaching Essentials en Español—a new version of the Coaching Essentials two-day coach training experience taught exclusively in Spanish.

Maria Rogers Pascual and Rebecca Aced-Molina held the first CE Español at the San Francisco Latino Community Foundation on June 26 & 27. With 20 participants, most of them immigrants from Latin America, Maria and Rebecca facilitated activities that addressed power and privilege, including a new approach to teaching the "Coach's Stand" juxtaposed with exploring the masks that the world asks everyone to wear.

Values: An Inside View

We all have values. Whether we visit our core values regularly or have never named them, each of us has a set of values that influence how we show up day-to-day. When we are living life in alignment with our values, life is in rhythm… it feels right.

The same goes for organizations. As a company, Leadership that Works (LTW) has a certain way of operating. We have underlying values that have shaped our culture, built our team and inspired the vision for our work.

LTW’s core values have emerged from the values already present and living in our people. It is from that perspective we are most excited about sharing our values publicly so the world can get an inside view of who we are. LTW is a place where we value Heart Connection, Social Change, Integrity, Collaboration and Innovation. These five values represent the best of what LTW offers.

We will be sharing more about our values in future newsletters. How have you witnessed these values in action at LTW? Send us an email...we'd love to hear your story.

News & Notes

Upcoming Changes to ACC and PCC Requirements

From the International Coach Federation (ICF):

Under the new policy, ICF will require ACC applicants to complete 100 hours of client-coaching experience following the start of their coach-specific training. Furthermore, at least 25 of these hours must occur within 18 months of the application for the credential. ACC applicants will still be required to have a minimum of eight clients and 75 paid client-coaching experience hours.

Under the new policy, ICF will require PCC applicants to complete 500 hours (down from 750 hours, under the existing policy) of client-coaching experience following the start of their coach-specific training. Furthermore, at least 50 of these hours must occur within 18 months of the application for the credential. PCC applicants will still be required to have a minimum of 25 clients and 450 paid client-coaching experience hours.

The ICF Global Board has approved a 12-month phase-in period for the new requirements. Beginning October 1, 2015, at 12 a.m. (New York), ACC and PCC applicants who meet these requirements will be able to begin applying under the new criteria. Beginning October 1, 2016, at 12 a.m. (New York), all ACC and PCC applicants will be required to meet the new criteria.

Words of Wisdom

As we embrace Leadership that Work’s core values, let’s reflect on the importance of personal values with these thoughts.

When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier. —Roy E. Disney

The decisions you make are a choice of values that reflect your life in every way. —Alice Waters

If you don’t stick to your values when they’re being tested, they’re not values: they’re hobbies. —Jon Stewart

One's life has value so long as one attributes value to the life of others, by means of love, friendship, indignation and compassion. —Simone de Beauvo
