Coach's Corner

Stepping Past the Borders of Our Knowing
by Ivy Woolf-Turk

One day, early in my coaching career, I received an unexpected telephone call from a client I had been coaching for about six months. I was surprised to hear from her on a day when we hadn’t scheduled a coaching session. I sensed a shrill quality in her voice that was not familiar. I asked her what was going on. She said that she needed to talk to me about something important, and was feeling very “ambivalent” about it.

How to Turn Your Multicultural  Background into a Competitive Advantage

People moving into a new country usually undergo the stress to deal with an entirely new cultural environment, which may go far beyond language difficulties, and include behavioral, cultural and religious differences—among others—making a transition much more complex that we can initially expect.

Coaching in Communities

The Leaders of Coaching for Community Transformation
by Rob McGowan

My beautiful, precious 5 year old son was battling cancer, my house was in the foreclosure process, my marriage was teetering on a ledge, and my health was killing me. I thought to myself, "How could this get any worse?", but it did... We had to short sale the house and hope the IRS wouldn't have us pay taxes on the difference of what the original loan was and what we sold it for. Myles lost his battle with cancer and a huge piece of me died with him. I sank into depression and sought comfort in food when my marriage wasn't in a place to provide it. My house, my son, and my wife were fading away and I weighed 289 pounds. I wanted to give up.

Values: An Inside View
by Charlotte Morse

This series of articles on Leadership that Works’ values gives a glimpse into the core of our organization, defining the “why” and “how” we do business. Visit our website to read all our core values.

Core Value #5: Innovation
Value- InnovationAs innovators in the training field, we are energized by creating sparks to ignite change, inspire creativity and build movements with individuals, organizations and communities. We don’t pretend to be a training organization with the answer to all of your problems. Instead, we partner with you to help discover answers, sift through ideas and extract untapped wisdom.

We’re not interested in mimicking other training organizations. Instead, we dare to believe we can shift the field of coaching to be inclusive and accessible for all people—building trust and partnerships to expand our vision and reach. We consistently push the boundaries of recognizing the importance and impact of power, privilege, rank and culture in our work. And, we are boldly transitioning to a cooperative organization that puts ownership in the hands of many.

A snapshot of LTW’s Innovation:

We embrace our existing wisdom, curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit to explore realms of possibility and to identify natural openings and real-time opportunities. We are committed to cultivating wildly creative and supportive spaces that invite us to play at, and go beyond, our edges. We celebrate our successes as well as our failures in service of our collective learning.
